When attempting to acquire images, you may run into instances where the sensor will trigger on its own. The captured image will either end up being all black or like something below. This issue is caused by the sensor receiving some kind of electrical signal that causes it to falsely trigger without any radiation actually being exposed to the sensor. We call this an auto-trigger.
There are a few reasons this can occur. The first is a bad USB port on the computer it is plugged into. A short in the cable of the sensor could also cause this. In some cases, other devices that are connected to the computer in use can cause an auto-trigger. For example, bluetooth receivers, USB desk fans, or even a charging cellphone, among other things or the combination of multiple could create this issue.
To determine where the issue may be coming from, we recommend unplugging any unnecessary USB devices and if you're using any kind of extension cable or USB hubs to instead plug the sensor directly into the computer. Next, test each USB port on the computer to see if the issue seems isolated to one, multiple or all.
If you've tested everything above and are still having this issue, do the same tests on other workstations in your office. If the issue is isolated to one computer, it may be that the USB ports there are starting to malfunction. In this situation, we suggest contacting your system administrator or in-office IT team to diagnose this computer for full functionality.
If the sensor is having this issue across multiple workstations and the problem persists or if you have any questions about any step of this process, we would love to assist you further. You can reach us by phone at 714.532.6100 extension 2 or by email at support@sotaimaging.zendesk.com.
